NEW REPORT EVALUATES WISCONSIN ROAD & BRIDGE CONDITIONS, CONGESTION, TRAFFIC SAFETY, TRANSPORTATION FUNDING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

A new report that evaluates the current condition, use and funding of Wisconsin’s surface transportation system will be released at a news conference in Madison at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 5th. The report is being released by TRIP, a national nonprofit transportation research group based in Washington, DC.

The report, “Wisconsin Transportation by the Numbers: Meeting the State’s Need for Safe, Smooth and Efficient Mobility,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion, economic development, highway safety, and transportation funding in Wisconsin. According to the report, the average driver in the Madison area loses nearly $2,100 annually as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, congested, and that lack some desirable safety features. In addition to statewide information, the report contains regional data for the Milwaukee and Madison urban areas, including pavement conditions, bridge conditions, congestion levels and traffic fatalities.

Carolyn Bonifas Kelly, TRIP’s associate director of research and communication, will present the findings of the report at the news conference. Local speakers will also be on hand to comment on the report.
