A new report that evaluates the current condition, use and funding of New York’s surface transportation system will be released at a news conference in Buffalo at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21. The report is being released by TRIP, a national nonprofit transportation research group based in Washington, DC.
The report, “New York’s Top Transportation Issues: Meeting the State’s Need for Safe, Smooth and Efficient Mobility,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion, economic development, highway safety, and transportation funding in New York. According to the report, the average driver in the Buffalo area loses nearly $1,900 annually as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, congested, and that lack some desirable safety features. In addition to statewide information, the report contains regional data for the Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, New York City metro, Poughkeepsie-Newburgh, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica urban areas, including pavement conditions, bridge conditions, congestion levels and traffic fatalities.
Rocky Moretti, TRIP’s director of research and policy, will present the findings of the report at the news conference. Local speakers will also be on hand to comment on the report.
