Local speakers join national research group in review of bridge conditions in Southern Maine and statewide.

WHAT:
A significant number of bridges statewide and in Southern Maine are structurally deficient, according to a new report from TRIP, a national nonprofit transportation research group based in Washington, DC. Bridges that are structurally deficient have significant deterioration to the major components of the bridge. Local speakers will join TRIP on Wednesday to highlight the findings and discuss possible solutions.
The report, Preserving Maine’s Bridges: The Condition and Funding Needs of Maine’s Aging Bridge System, examines bridge conditions statewide and provides bridge condition data for Bangor, Central Maine and Southern Maine. The report also includes lists of bridges in Bangor, Central and Southern Maine with the lowest average rating for the deck, substructure and superstructure, and it lists the most heavily traveled structurally deficient bridges in each region.
